Hi Mark. If I remember correctly (and it was 4 years ago!) I used the Porsche rubber seals and the VW plastic inserts. So if you are getting the MC complete with reservoir you should just have to pop out the reservoir and push your existing plastic inserts in. Good luck with the swap, I hope it works well for you.

I was reading the tech pages on here about the 944 master cylinder.

i have just bought one off ebay, complete with the reservoir. to change it to accept the beetle plastic pipes, what do i need to do.

do i need new seals and pipes aor do i just need the pipes.

it was indicated that vw ones will fit, but i called machine 7 yeaterday and he said there was 3 different sizes of seals. which ones fit? or maybe i just need the pipes.

i dont actually have the mastercylinder yet, i twill probably arrive next week, but i would like to be ready to boltup and go.

HPMX are the new EMPI carbs right? I know one person who uses them, but he had no problems as far as I know. He is bad65 on VZi if you want to ask him: http://www.volkszone.com/VZi/

Have you ever set HPMX carbs up before..? I cant get my lump to fire up with them. Started with the twin solex's, but after putting all the settings as the instructions tell me to I cant get it to fire. Spark is there etc, but no joy.

Cheers dude! Already got ebay covered! Still looking for carriers though, no luck yet! But we shall see what I can find. I sat and thought about it and you're probably right about the fronts... No need for the overkill! I bidded anyway and lost at £35 plus £20 P&P. They came with vented discs but they were probably past best looking at them. "Needed a skim" it said on the auction which probably meant "warped, grooved, rusted below surface and likely to shatter when used" 914 discs next on the shopping list!

Oh, it works. You're not the first to follow my how-to by a long way.

I find that the stock calipers work well on the front, but by all means try other ones. But you might find that Cosworth front calipers are for vented discs.

BTW I see you are bidding on another pair for the rear.

Cool man. I'm looking at a front upgrade too but not sure yet... Figured I got some Cosworths on the rear, might as well go cossy on the front... Been done over on my rear calipers though, looks the bloke isn't going to sell me the carriers with the calipers because they only went for a tenner on ebay. What a git! Won't reply to emails asking about it, just keeps sending invoices to me in reply! Mind you, can;t grumble, got 'em for a tenner! The guy put the auction ending at 2am on a sunday! DOH! So all I gotta do now is get hold of a mig welder and some 914 rotors and we'll see if your genius idea really works... If I do the conversion, then don't get back to you on how it performs... It's because I've killed myself!

Stock VW type 1 discs. Rotors have been replaced recently and have wheel studs fitted. Calipers are the later (ATE?) style, and spindles are the later larger diameter ones.

But in short, stock beetle discs.
